Newsflash

The 2011 ASDA Kwik Cricket competition has once more produced some fantastic performances from Suffolk schools – one of which still remain in the competition.

Once again all roads led to Woolpit for the County Finals on 27th and 28th June.  The first date saw the boys / mixed tournament take centre stage on a blisteringly hot day where water supplies were constantly being topped up by our friends from ASDA Chris Holmes and Sandra Irvine.  The cricket was packed into a busy day and despite the soaring temperatures the quality was high.  It was two nearby schools who fought it out in the final with SRH Framlingham defeating Halesworth Middle with both sides progressing to the Regional Finals at Mildenhall on which saw SRH Framlingham just missing out on the final.

Pride of Suffolk though must go to Great Cornard Middle School who stormed through to the regional finals in the Girls competition at the second day at Woolpit.  In cooler conditions to the previous day the standard remained high and some tight games saw Causton Primary School join Great Cornard at the regional final at Mildenhall.  Whilst Causton were defeated at the group stages Great Cornard continued to win game after game culminating in a thrilling final victory which now sees them represent Suffolk and the Eastern ECB region at the national finals at Derbyshire County Cricket Club on 19th July.

ASDA Kwik Cricket is a vital element to the growth of cricket in Suffolk often giving children their first experience of playing the game.  Over 200 games were played across the county and with so many games in such a short space of time, Suffolk Cricket would like to thank all of the competition organisers, teachers, young leaders and cricket clubs across Suffolk who have helped each event run smoothly.
