The Foundation was launched back in 2009 with the purpose of supporting talented young cricketers and ensuring that the issue of finance did not become a barrier to any individual in the county fulfilling their potential, and as part of the bigger “one Game “ ethos within the county.
The small committee has worked hard in its first year and special mention must be made of Carl Webb-Snowling’s efforts in generating the vast majority of the foundations funding through his outstanding management of the Suffolk young cricketers clothing project, and of course Gary Colman’s studious work as Treasurer. The Foundation has a charitable arm through the Suffolk Sports Foundation, though to date this tax efficient route for business funding has seen little activity. Demand on the Foundations resources have been steady, and having just reviewed the 2010 scholarship applications, I am proud to announce that in our first 14 months of existence we have now helped in total 8 young cricketers with packages totalling some £2459. Moving forward I believe the ongoing development of the Foundation remains a critical brick for ensuring young talent from all backgrounds can achieve success, though the Foundation faces a number of key challenges, which I have listed below: • The Foundation desperately needs to attract new faces to its committee, so if you have a few hours to spare, and would like in some way to help us with our cause please contact me on the numbers below. • So far our links with Business have been limited, though we are most grateful to those who have supported us, so if you know any business that would like to work with us on this worthy cause please do not hesitate in asking them to contact me. • The Foundation needs to continue to explore new ways of raising income, the 2010 awards have left us with less than £500 in reserves so if you, or your club can even make a donation of £10, every little will make difference. In summary we are rightly proud of our work so far, but have greater long term plans to create a true legacy that will help Suffolk cricket stand out in terms of its true value around “one game”. If you would like to help in anyway I would love to hear from you. Martin Taylor |
