“Reece is one step closer to achieving his lifetime ambition” Print E-mail

Young Suffolk cricketer Reece Grover has recently been selected for the National hearing impaired development squad, which is only one step down from the full England hearing impaired team.

Reece is 15 years of age, a pupil at St Joseph’s College and a member of Ipswich cricket club. He has been playing cricket since the age of 8 and has never let his hearing impairment stand in the way of his ambition to play cricket at the highest level.

Reece spent last summer training with Suffolk’s new hearing impaired county squad and more than held his own with the mainly adult players under the tutorage of Suffolk’s Tom Huggins.

Training for the National development squad is taking place over a number of weekends at Shrewsbury School in Shropshire. Reece and his father Martin have gratefully received some financial assistance from the Suffolk Young Cricketers foundation to help with travel and overnight accommodation costs.

The foundations Chairman Martin Taylor commented:

Reece is a shining example to all young people and proves a disability should not prevent you from achieving your goals in life.  The foundation, set up in 2009, is absolutely delighted to be able to help Reece as well as the eight other young cricketers we have helped with scholarships since our inception some 16 months ago.

The Foundation is always looking for new supporters and backers so if you would like to help us in any way, please ring me on 07827254933.

With the Hearing impaired World Cup scheduled to be held in New Zealand in Dec 2010, there is time for young Reece to force his way into the National squad and be the first cricketer from Suffolk to play for England in living memory.

In the meantime, it is back to the hard work of training and improving. Reece is now training with the senior teams at his school and is looking forward to another successful season as well as playing a key part in the Suffolk hearing impaired county programme for 2010.
