Sudbury 100 Mildenhall 102-9

Mildenhall won by two runs

MILDENHALL overcame their East Anglian Premier League rivals to clinch the Greene King Suffolk Cup.

Mildenhall batted first and were starved of scoring opportunities by some good bowling from Hunn, Fernando and Batch.

Joe Reed and Steve Grinling were both removed as Mildenhall could only manage 35 off the first 10 overs.

James Holmes and Steve Lankester began a fightback with Holmes hitting two massive sixes.

Lankester (16) fell to a caught and bowled by Batch, and Holmes posted 36 before he was clean bowled by Gallagar.

Chris Baugh (12) worked the ball around and it enabled Mildenhall to finish on 102-9. Consensus on the boundary was that they were 20 runs short of a defendable target.

Mildenhall started well when Rees was dismissed first ball by Lwana, Grinling holding on to a sharp catch.

Warraich bowled Poulson (70) in his second over, but Sudbury fought back through Fernando and Batch and they brought up 50 in the 11th over.

Mildenhall changed their attack and took the pace off the ball. Lankester struck to dismiss both Fernando (26) and Batch (20). And when Reed trapped Poole lbw, Mildenhall were suddenly back in the game.

Reed struck again when K Moulton Day edged to keeper Grinling, leaving Sudbury on 72-6.

Mildenhall brought on Shepperson, only to see his first over cost 13 and the advantage tilt again towards Sudbury.

James Holmes was brought on with Sudbury requiring just 11 runs to win from three overs. He had a great over and bowled B Moulton Day while conceding just one run.

In the 19th over, Mansfold (11) launched at Shepperson, only to be caught on the boundary by man-of-the-moment Holmes.

So it came down to the last over and Sudbury needing seven runs to win with two wickets left.

Sudbury managed three singles before Holmes induced Gallagar into a simple catch to Lankester.

Holmes’ fifth ball was a dot and the last ball resulted in Hyett being run out as he and Hunn tried to scramble the three needed for a win.

The final few overs of high drama had seen Mildenhall snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Mildenhall captain Steve Lankester was presented with the Suffolk Cup and sponsors Greene King provided a large quantity of alcohol to fill it.

Mildenhall won by five wickets

MILDENHALL edged through to the final with victory off the fourth ball of the final over.

Woolpit batted first and quickly moved to 27 before Tymal Mills removed dangerman Andy Northcote (11), caught behind by wicketkeeper Steve Grinling.
Woolpit continued to score at 10 an over and raced past 50 thanks to some loose bowling and sloppy fielding, but Mildenhall began to fightback as skipper Lankester stemmed the run rate.

But it was the introduction of Joe Reed that tipped the balance towards Mildenhall. He had Rutterford caught on the boundary after scoring a solid 35 and then bowled B Crame for seven.

With D Large run out and Warraich picking up two late wickets, Woolpit closed their innings after 20 overs on 137-9.

Joe Reed (71) led the reply and was partnered by Grinling (12), James Holmes (14) and Lankester (30) to level the scores with seven balls to go.

Bizarrely, both batsmen were then dismissed and Chris Baugh was sent back having been stumped, but Lwana scrambled a single off the fourth ball of the last over to win.
