Suffolk County Council and Suffolk Sport are keen to play our part in creating a legacy of increased sports participation in Suffolk as a result of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

To this end we have developed a concept that we hope will help engage young people from Suffolk in sport next summer

London 2012 is coming

The London 2012 Games are coming and young people will inevitably be inspired to choose sport.

We all want to help them make the most of this once in a lifetime opportunity so we’ve designed a campaign to catch their attention and to give them the chance to make sport part of their lives.

We’d like to invite you to be part of this campaign to create a meaningful sporting legacy for Suffolk from the Games.

Our commitment:

·         A high-profile, high impact, branded campaign (online and offline) aimed at recruiting young people to your activities

·         Branded promotional items for you to use to demonstrate your involvement in the Suffolk Summer of Sport 2012 - including t-shirts for coaches, certificates for participants, banners and promotional posters.

·         A bank of core resources for your use including application forms, attendance registers and photo permission forms

·         To provide you with a great opportunity to be involved in a project that demonstrates a shared
commitment to creating a sporting legacy for Suffolk from the greatest show on earth.

Your commitment:
There is no charge for being involved in the Suffolk Summer of Sport 2012 but we do ask that you commit to:

·         Organising and hosting reasonably priced short courses or taster sessions at your club/organisation in the summer of 2012

·         Uploading details of your activities on to our interactive Suffolk Summer of Sport website (full instructions will be provided)

·         Helping to spread the message by using the resources provided to promote the activities in your locality

·         Administering and delivering activities to appropriate minimum NGB standards

·         Providing opportunities for young people to continue participating after the promotion is complete

So if you are interested in working with ourselves and Suffolk Sport to capitalise on the opportunities from the Games here in Suffolk, then all we require at this stage is your expression of interest by emailing me This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Please provide us with a contact name and an idea of the type of short courses or taster sessions you might run.

Regards

Newsflash

I’m conscious that you’ll all be concerned about the impending hosepipe ban, at present coming into force on April 5th and I wanted to ensure you were aware that Suffolk Cricket Board (as well as other affected county boards / ECB) are lobbying respective Water Companies in an attempt to gain an exemption

As well as being in contact with Anglian Water (Suffolk & Essex Water at present haven’t imposed a hosepipe ban however are “monitoring the situation”) I sent this letter on behalf of Suffolk Cricket and all its affiliated clubs.

Of course we all need to make every effort to conserve water usage in our clubs, and I would encourage everyone to visit http://www.anglianwater.co.uk/environment/using-water-wisely/ for advice and guidance on this matter. Details of a water efficiency project will be circulated shortly, which will see products fitted “free of charge” in cricket clubs that meet the required criteria. This is part of a much larger project which will hopefully see in the future rainwater harvesting and other large scale ideas help benefit clubs, in what is becoming an ever increasing problem.

Some helpful tips on actions to take during a hosepipe ban can be found here.

I will continue to keep you updated however rest assured we’re doing all that we can to get this hosepipe ban overturned”
