From ECB Young Leader to ECB Club Coach you are the driver of how far and how quickly you want to achieve that status. The Suffolk Cricket Board provides all the ingredients and steps of the ladder you need to become a Club Coach. The step from Club Coach to Head Coach is a big one and requires a nomination from the County Board and a big commitment from the individual. This is usually for coaches at County Level with experience and desire to continue their development at a minimum of county standard.

Delivery
The Suffolk Cricket Board delivers the local programme via the Suffolk Coaches Association, The Suffolk Coaches Association Team is led by Carl Webb-Snowling and Bobby Flack our Lead Tutor and Field Based Trainer. The following is a brief outline of the work involved in this process.

Each summer the above panel meets having asked the Clubs how many places they require for each course for planning purposes. With this information a decision can be made on how many courses at each level are needed and in which locations. It has been normal practice to take an educated guess at this point as clubs haven’t been as forthcoming as everyone would like. Once the numbers of each course is known, venues and tutors can then be booked and the courses registered with the ECB & Coach wise. Until recently we have suffered within Suffolk due to the number of qualified tutors we had available, Bobby Flack has worked some magic and we are now seeing more Suffolk based Coaches tutor trained to support our needs. The costs associated with each course are then calculated and the support provided by various revenue streams factored in to provide a cost to the individual. It is worth mentioning at this point that The Suffolk Cricket Board financially supports our Coach Education programme and it is accepted that this area makes a net loss to the board.

The course dates and venues are then given to every club for booking purposes and the Professional team has agreed to assist in providing the admin support to complete this task. It would help all if the application forms could be completed fully as chasing missing information is a key waste of valuable resource!

We do need to have a deadline date for applications as the ordering of resource material has been an issue. Once the course deadline date has been reached the resources can be ordered and paid for and the tutors can begin the planning in line with numbers. Upon course completion and subsequent assessments the tutors then apply for the certificates from Coach Wise and upon receipt the loop is closed with issue of said certificates to the individuals concerned.

Within Suffolk we are always willing to listen and learn – but we can only do that if we receive feedback from you and the clubs!

Is the right number of each course available?
Are they in the right locations at the right times?
What can we do to support Coach Development in the County?

Newsflash

The Suffolk Cricket Board and ECB takes the Welfare of young persons very seriously hence we have
endorsed the policy that all clubs must have a Club Welfare Officer.

I know all the leagues within the county have also adopted this.

The named individual must have attended the Safe Hands Workshop for Club Welfare Officers or
the old Time to Listen course  within the last 3 years.

A course is being held at King Edward VI School in Bury St Edmunds on Wednesday 28th March 2012 from 6pm -9pm
for more information contact Suffolk Cricket Board.

We also respectfully ask that clubs let us know of any changes regarding their Club Welfare Officers
and also ensure that the post holder has a current CRB.

If a club does not comply and have a qualified up to date Club Welfare Officer,
then it could effect their affiliation to the ECB/ County Board and make them ineligible to partake in
league cricket within Suffolk.
